Through community centred action, we work to assist in the struggle for learning and creativity of imprisoned people by collecting and delivering diverse supplies of reading material to jails and prisons in Ontario.
There is a Profound and constant shortage of books available to imprisoned people. While some prisons have minimal funding for books, most jails have none. Many people in Canada experience long periods of incarceration, months if not years without access to an adequate supply of reading material. By collecting mostly used books in the community, our goal is to change this reality.
We envision an empowered and connected population, where no one is denied access to books and learning. We foresee a future which values education over punishment and where the oppressive and punitive prison does not exist.
